Prayer

The power and practice of prayer

Prayer

1

  1. PRAYER Communication is essential in a relationship. We get to know others speaking with them and spending time with them.

God speaks to us through His Word. In this study we’ll see how we can speak to God and how this is important in our relationship with Him.

1. Why Should Ipray?

 Psalm 36:7-9 (Amos 5:4) From God we have life. He is like a fountain that sustains our lives. His lovingkindness is the reason why we can trust Him. A constant relationship of dependence by God is what the saved will have in heaven with God and it is our privilege to get this habit now, while we still live on this earth!

God knows already what we need before we ask (see Matthew 6:8), but we need to learn to depend on Him. This helps us to recognize our limits and the greatness of God.

2. Why Would God Listen to My Prayers?

 Ephesians 2:18; Romans 8:26-27 Through Jesus, we have access to the Father. His righteousness allows our prayers to become worthy before of God.

The Holy Spirit also helps us, because we do not know how to pray as we ought. God Himself is helping us out, so that we may be able to relate with Him in a proper way.

3. What is the Impact That God Can Have in My Life When Ipray?

 Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 26:41 God is able to do much more than we expect. If we allow Him to intervene in our lives through prayer, He will change them for the better. Prayer is a mean through which God can help us to have victory over temptation and sin.

4. Is There Something That Might Hinder My Prayers From Being Listened?

 Psalm 66:18; Hebrews 11:6 Our sins are an obstacle to our relationship with God. If we willingly persevere in a path of sin, this will be a hindrance to our prayers. 2 7. Prayer – Menorah Mission School – 2018/2019 At any time we may ask help to God to find deliverance from such a situation (see John 8:34-36).

Faith is also indispensable for a relationship with God. When we pray we need to believe that there is a real God who really listens to what we are saying and really answers to our prayers and really rewards those who seek Him.

5. Is It Possible to Pray in the Wrong Way?

 James 4:3 If we ask things in prayer just to gratify ourselves, we are praying in an unproper way. Biblical prayer teaches us how much a relationship with God is essential for our lives and how much we need to follow His will instead of ours, because prayer is really about surrendering our will to God (see Matthew 26:39).

6. What Should Isay in My Prayers?

 Philippians 4:6-7 Prayer allows us to speak to God and tell Him what troubles us and thank Him for His help and guidance. We can speak to Him as to a friend. What a privilege we have!

We should not just ask, but also remember that it is important to thank God. It is common practice to thank people and we do not want to forget to thank God in a special way. We totally depend from Him for every breath we take, so we should be thankful for that and for all the blessings, small and big, that he gives to us.

When we have given to God all, both our requests and thanksgiving, God will fill our hearts with deep peace.

7. Can Ipray in Behalf of Others?

 1 Timothy 2:1-3; James 5:14-16 The Bible tells us that we should definitely pray for others, even for our governors.

A good subject we can pray for are those around us who are sick. When we pray God may answer with a YES, with a NO, or with a WAIT. If we pray for a very sick person, it is not sure that the person will be healed, but the prayer of faith will work for the salvation of the person, according to God’s promise in the Bible.

8. How Often Should Ipray?

 Psalm 55:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:17 In the Bible, we are counseled to pray three times a day, but it is good to uplift our thoughts in prayer even more often, even with a continual talk with Him through our mind. 7. Prayer – Menorah Mission School – 2018/2019 3 God is glad to hear our prayers when we are sincerely looking for His help and guidance or when we just want to thank Him for His blessings. Every time we are discouraged, tempted or willing to speak to God, we can freely do so.

9. How do Iknow If God Will Answer My Prayers?

 1 John 5:14-15; Mark 11:24; Isaiah 43:26 We need to ask things according to God’s will. We need to believe that God will give us what we asked for and thank Him for that.

God wants us to remember His promises and to claim them to Him, because this is a sign that we trust Him. He always fulfills His promises at the right time!

Appeal

He will not always answer our prayers immediately and sometimes the answer will be a NO, but we can be sure that God will give us what is best for us. If we could see what God sees, we would answer our prayers the same way He does.

Don’t you think that prayer is a great opportunity to be connected with our Father in heaven?
